Terms of Use

The rules of the road.

Plain-English terms for using Fairtabs. We've kept it short — read it once, you'll know where you stand.

1. Who we are

Fairtabs ("Fairtabs," "we," "us," "our") provides a bill-splitting application available at fairtabs.com, app.fairtabs.com, and as a native iOS app (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account, signing in, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Use (the "Terms").

2. Your account

• You must be at least 13 years old to use Fairtabs (or the minimum age in your country, whichever is higher).
• Keep your sign-in email and devices secure. You're responsible for activity under your account.
• One person, one account. Don't impersonate someone else or share an account with them.
• You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Privacy → Delete account.

3. Plus subscription

Fairtabs is free to use up to 100 expenses per month. Fairtabs Plus is a paid, auto-renewing subscription that removes that cap and unlocks all features.

iOS purchases (App Store)

• Purchases made through the iOS app are processed by Apple and governed by Apple's standard EULA (linked at the bottom of this page) and the App Store Terms of Service.
• Auto-renewal: Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Payment is charged to your Apple ID account. The renewal charge appears within 24 hours before the period ends.
• To manage or cancel: open the iOS Settings app → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → Fairtabs Plus → Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.
• Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Web purchases

• Plus is currently free to enable while our payment processor onboarding is in progress. If you tap "Start trial" on the web, your account will be upgraded to Plus at no charge. We are recording your interest so we can notify you when paid plans are live.
• When paid web plans become available, we will give you advance notice and the option to keep your free Plus access, switch to a paid plan, or cancel before any charge is made. We will never silently begin charging an account that was upgraded for free.
• Card details, when paid plans return, will be processed by an external payment provider. We will never see or store card numbers.

4. Acceptable use

Fairtabs is for splitting bills with people you know. Don't use it to:

• Harass, defraud, or impersonate anyone.
• Upload illegal, infringing, or hateful content (including in expense names, group names, comments, or receipt photos).
• Reverse-engineer, scrape, or otherwise mess with the Service in ways that disrupt it for other users.
• Resell or sublicense access to the Service.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of everything you put into Fairtabs — group names, expense descriptions, receipt photos, comments, wallet handles, all of it. By uploading content, you give us a limited license to store it and display it back to you and the other members of your groups, only as needed to operate the Service.

We don't sell your data. We don't run third-party ad-network tracking. The full picture is in our Privacy Policy.

6. Wallet handoffs

Settling up uses deep-links to PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle. We never see, hold, or move your money. The actual payment happens entirely inside the wallet app you choose. We're not responsible for what those services do, charge, or fail to do.

7. Receipt OCR

If you scan a receipt, we send the image to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to extract merchant + total. The image is processed transiently and not used to train any model. The image you upload is also stored in our database tied to that expense, and is deleted when you delete the expense.

8. Service changes

We're a small team shipping fast. Features may change, be added, or be removed. If we materially reduce a feature you paid for during an active subscription period, we'll either restore it or pro-rate a refund.

9. Disclaimers

Fairtabs is provided "as is." We do our best to keep it running, accurate, and secure, but we don't warrant uninterrupted availability or that calculations will always match your accountant's. Always double-check final amounts before sending money.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Fairtabs is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) $50.

11. Termination

You can stop using Fairtabs anytime by deleting your account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. On termination, paid subscriptions remain valid through the end of the current billing period unless we terminated for serious abuse.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when the product changes materially. We'll post the updated Terms here and update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use after changes means you accept them.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Subject to applicable law, any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in India.

Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable rights you may have as a consumer under the laws of your country of residence.
