Fairtabs

The minimum to split bills.

Fairtabs collects only what we need to make the product work. No tracking across apps, no selling data, no surprises.

1. What we collect

Account info: email, display name, chosen currency.
Expenses & splits: who paid, who owes, amounts, descriptions, receipt photos you upload.
Wallet handles you type in (PayPal email, Venmo handle, Zelle bank) — used only to deep-link to those apps for payment. We never see the handles of anyone you pay; we only deep-link the way you set up.
Device info: app version, OS version, error logs — used to fix bugs. Telemetry is anonymised at the row level beyond your user ID.
Plus interest events: if you tap a Plus upgrade button while paid plans are paused, we record the timestamp, surface (web or iOS), and chosen cadence so we can notify you when paid plans launch.

2. What we don't collect

We don't track you across other apps or websites.
We don't sell data to advertisers, brokers, or anyone else.
We don't integrate third-party advertising SDKs on paid tiers. The free tier may show in-feed ads sourced from a small number of vetted partners.
We don't have access to your bank or wallet accounts — only the handles you choose to enter.
We don't store credit card numbers. When paid plans are live, payment data is handled entirely by the payment processor.

3. Why we collect it

Exactly what you'd expect: to let you sign in, show your balances, send expenses to the right people, render receipts, and deep-link to payment apps. Receipt OCR is performed by Anthropic (Claude API) — the image is transmitted to Anthropic only for that single inference call and is not used for training.

4. Who we share with

Members of your groups see the expenses and balances you've shared with them. That's the whole app.
Service providers: Supabase (database and authentication), Anthropic (receipt OCR only), Apple (App Store sign-in and in-app purchase processing on iOS), Brevo (transactional email). Each is contractually restricted from using your data for their own purposes.
Legal requirements: only when compelled by valid legal process.

5. Your rights

You can view, export, or delete your data at any time. On iOS, go to Settings → Privacy → Delete account; on the web, use the same option in your account menu. Deletion is permanent and removes your account, expenses, splits, settlements, comments, receipt images, and Plus-interest records within 30 days.

If you reside in the EU, UK, or California, you have rights under GDPR/UK GDPR/CCPA respectively (access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection). Email privacy@fairtabs.com to exercise any of them.

6. Data location

Your data is stored on infrastructure operated by Supabase in the United States. Receipt images are held in encrypted object storage. By using Fairtabs, you consent to your data being processed in the United States and other jurisdictions where our service providers and Fairtabs operate.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Row-level security in our database enforces that members of a group can only see that group's data — never other groups'. Receipt images are stored with per-user-scoped access policies.

8. Children

Fairtabs is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country, whichever is higher). We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe we have, email us and we'll delete it.

9. Changes

Material changes will be announced via email at least 30 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change.
